Pavilions of promise
world's fair model
Created a scale model of the Chicago World's Fair of 1893 as part of a cohort-wide group dual book project exploring the relationship between contstructed image, found image, and typography. Created spreads for found image and typography in volume one.
This 3D model served as the subject of the constructed image portion of volume two. As project manager, I advocated and led the effort on creating an architectural scale model based on maps and drawings of the original World's Fairgrounds. Modeled in Rhino 8, printed on a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon, and routed baltic birch plywood on ShopSabre CNC.
I was elected as the project manager by peers and led the effort on both volumes of Pavillions of Promise. In addition to keeping the project moving smoothly, I led the model building team.
Using a map and an ink drawing of the fairgrounds, I recreated approximations of each of the buildings in Rhino8, Developed a street and water topography base that was milled out of plywood on the ShopSabre CNC.
Photographed model with professional lighting, edited photos, and compiled the final images into Volume 2.
